The Sky Drops are Rob Montejo and Monika Bullette - a superforce of guitars, drums, and vocals. Based in Wilmington, Delaware, the band members each have their own fine pedigree and began The Sky Drops in the Autumn of 2005.
Rob Montejo's previous band Smashing Orange's retrospective album "1991" was released on Elephant Stone Records in 2005. Monika Bullette's debut album The Secrets won Philadelphias City Papers 2005 Music Award Best Album You Can Get For Free and Without a Guilty Conscience.
Rob and Monika's beautiful harmonies are intensified by swimming blissed-out guitars and no-nonsense drumming. The Sky Drops have been likened to a "shoegazing Everly Brothers".
"Delaware collective The Sky Drops take an unlikely hypothetical question and answers it. While sitting around, a group of herbal aficionados might touch on some musical intellectualism from time to time and question whether or not stoner rock can flow seamlessly into a melodic pop-guitar crunch. A hypothetical response to such a question could be Monika Bullette and Rob Montejo's The Sky Drops. The group introduces a steady flow of dark guitar before reverting back to the lighter pop harmony. Refining post-grunge rock has been an unsuccessful recipe for many bands, but The Sky Drops seem to incorporate just enough of its surrounding tastes to make it work." Culture Bully (5/06)
"A nod to the early 90's shoegaze. Yet it's more accessible and less willfully obtuse. Rather than gazing down at shoes and laces, The Sky Drops play with their heads held high." To Die By Your Side (7/06)
The fuzz rock anthem "Now Would Be", the sublime "Hang On", and the pop stunner "The Go Go Go" are among the best tunes you're likely to hear this year. The Big Takeover (10/06)
